Reconstructing the coronation of Napoléon

To commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar, the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich is mounting a special exhibition entitled Nelson & Napoléon.

As part of this exhibition Dr Vaughan Hart, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, has created a computer model which reconstructs Napoléon’s triumphant route through Paris and coronation at Notre-Dame on 2 December 1804.

Designed in collaboration with Dr Peter Hicks of the Fondation Napoléon, Paris, and Visiting Research Fellow Joseph Robson, the computer model is based on contemporary descriptions and pictures, and shows the procession moving through the streets of Paris to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. Special temporary structures were built around the Cathedral, which have been modeled in great detail.

See the model at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, from 7 July-4 September. (See related links to book tickets)
