Keith Walton retires end of August

Keith Walton, Director of Studies in Mathematical Sciences, will be retiring at the end of August, after 32 years of service to the University. A Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics, he has been Director of Studies for a total of 13 years.

A farewell gathering will take place in the Senior Common Room on Friday 19 August at 4pm. There is a card for Keith available for signing at the Mathematical Sciences' reception in 1W 3.12.

Over the years he has been a constant source of advice and support to many hundreds of students, who always gained a sympathetic hearing and words of wisdom at whatever time of day they knocked on his door.

He has served on many University committees and, despite the catchphrase often to be heard "Well, Mathematics is different!", has offered a wealth of experience and a useful common sense approach to many areas of administration. This is especially true in the area of overseas recruitment, particularly in Hong Kong and Singapore, where his knowledge and network of contacts, mostly ex-students, has proved invaluable to the University.

The University wishes Keith well in his retirement.
