Press Release - 23 August 2005

Expert comment on negotiations over Iraq’s new constitution

While violence in Iraq continues unabated, negotiations over a new constitution seem to have reached their final stages with a draft now agreed by two of the country’s main communities — Shia and Kurds.

Sunni protests, however, have prevented the draft from being approved so far.

The University of Bath can offer expert opinion to the media on this topic:

Professor Stefan Wolff

Professor Wolff is Professor of Political Science at the University of Bath and has extensive expertise in the Middle East, Northern Ireland and the Balkans and has also worked on a wide range of other conflicts elsewhere, including Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, and Central and Southeast Asia.

Professor Wolff is a consultant for major national and international governmental and non-governmental organisations and the private sector, including the UK Foreign Office, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, and the European Centre for Minority Issues. Professor Wolff’s has published widely, including ten books and numerous journal articles and book chapters.

He can offer comment on the current situation in Iraq, the constitutional negotiations, the future of the country and the role of the international community.
