New member of the Lifelong Learning team

Janet Lonsdale has joined the Division for Lifelong Learning as the Widening Participation Officer (Work-Based Learning). Based at the Oakfield Campus, Janet will be working on raising the awareness of work-based learning opportunities, especially the new foundation degrees, in Bath, Swindon and surrounding regions.

Janet says, “Foundation degrees are a new idea and many local employers and training providers aren’t aware of the potential benefits. I will spend much of my time out and about meeting local employers and explaining how the new programmes work.

“I won’t be doing all the talking though, an important part of my role is to understand the needs of the local employers and use that information to improve and develop the programmes.

“I will be working closely with our partner colleges who will deliver the programmes and provide support to them and the employers concerned.”

Janet joins the University from The Open University in Oxford where she provided education advice and student support. Originally from Nottinghamshire, Janet lives in Swindon and is a keen traveller.
