Press Release - 23 January 2006

The new Jaguar arrives in Swindon

Car enthusiasts are to have the opportunity to view the new Jaguar XK8 and hear the inside story of its creation at a free lecture at the University of Bath in Swindon (7.30pm, Thursday 26 January).

The latest automobile engineering lecture, part of a series run jointly by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the University, will be given by industry expert and project manager, Peter Matkin.

Bob Jardine, who organises the lecture series, said: “The XK8 is the latest embodiment of a world-renowned motoring icon that links back to the XK Jaguars at Le Mans in the ‘50s and to the great SS roadsters of the ‘30s. The lecture tells the story behind the making of the modern car.”

There will be an example of the new car present for the audience to view, and attendees will have the opportunity meet Mr Matkin and to network with other industry professionals, over a free buffet supper at the end of the evening.

The series of annual automobile lectures has included presentations on: Honda technology, the aluminium Jaguar XJ series, Formula 1 design and on the latest Land Rover Discovery. The lectures attract a strong showing of automobile industry professionals who value these opportunities to review cutting edge practice in this highly specialised sector of mechanical engineering.

Admission is free and all are welcome, but do please register online your intention to attend because there is a limitation on numbers. Free parking available in the West Car Park. The lecture will be held in the Main Hall on the Oakfield Campus.
