New European film season launched in Bath

People in Bath will get the chance to see a series of important European films introduced by experts in international culture.

The University of Bath’s Department of European Studies and Modern Languages is working with the Little Theatre Cinema in the city to show five contemporary films, all with English sub-titles.

The series begins on February 6 with the award-winning and hard-hitting Turkish-German film Head On. The films are introduced by staff from the MA in European Cinema Studies.

The full list is:

• Monday 6 February 2006, 6.20pm Head On (Germany, 2003, directed by Fatih Akin), introduced by Dr David Clarke, Lecturer in German

• Monday 13 February, 6.30pm Notre Musique (France, 2005, directed by Jean-Luc Godard), introduced by Mrs Wendy Everett, Senior Lecturer in French and Film

• Monday 27 February, 6.30pm Respiro (Italy, 2002, directed by Emanuele Crialese), introduced by Mr Ernie Hampson, Lecturer in Italian

• Monday 13 March, 6.30pm The Return (Russia, 2003, directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev), introduced by David Gillespie, Professor of Russian

• Monday 27 March, 6.30pm Take My Eyes (Spain, 2003, directed by Iciar Bollain), introduced by Dr Helena Lopez, Lecturer in Spanish.
