Royal visit exhibition opens today at the Holburne Museum of Art

An exhibition that will be visited by Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall opens at the Holburne Museum of Art in Bath today, Tuesday 31 January.

Painting The West Country House & Garden features 30 paintings of great houses and estates in the West Country painted from the 17th century to the present day. The Exhibition continues to April 17 and is free to all staff and students at the University of Bath.

The paintings include Jan Siberechts’ 1675 View of Longleat, on loan from the Marquess of Bath, and a view of Highgrove commissioned in 1985 from Felix Kelly and on loan from the Prince of Wales.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit the exhibition on Friday and meet guests including Don Foster, MP for Bath, the Marquess of Lansdowne, the businessman Andrew Brownsword and Professor Glynis Breakwell, the Vice-Chancellor.

Dr Sturgis said: “Painting the West Country will be our first exhibition for 2006 and we are delighted to have secured so many important pictures from and of the local areas.”
