Press Release - 27 October 2006

Free firework display to take place on campus

Bath’s only free public firework display – The Bright Orange Family Fireworks – will take place on Saturday 4 November with a wider range of entertainment than ever before.

The event, held at the University of Bath’s Claverton Down campus, will feature the usual funfair, radio roadshow, and fireworks display. New for this year is the range of live performances showcasing student talent from fire juggling to singing and dancing.

This year’s event is sponsored by First Bus and the funfair and catering vans will open from 6pm until 11pm and performances begin from 7pm onwards.

The events is organised by Bath Rag, the student fundraising group at the University of Bath. Although the event is free, Rag volunteers will be around on the night to collect a suggested donation of £2 per person and are hoping to equal last year’s successful £3,500 raised at the display.

Bath Rag has raised over £1 million raised since it began in 1967 and each year donates to around 50 local and national charities.

“This year’s event has a wider range of entertainment than ever before, so there should be something for everyone.” said Fireworks Co-ordinator Mark Campbell. “This is an event for everyone in the city to enjoy.”

The organisers have gained support among local people by inviting the University's neighbours to a VIP reception and promotion of the 18 and 418 bus services to the University provided by First Bus.

The roadshow will be provided by 1449AM URB, the University student radio station and the performances are from University arts societies, compering the evening will be GWR FM's Russ and Paulina from The Early Bath show. There will be a marquee serving drinks, as well as several catering vans serving a variety of food.
