New partnership with Shandong University, China

The University is pleased to announce the establishment of an EU-funded partnership between the University's European Research Institute (ERI) and the Center for European Studies (CESSDU) of Shandong University, China.

Funded by the European Commission to a total of 340,000 Euros over the next three years, the partnership will involve academic exchanges and visits for staff and doctoral students between the two institutions, joint postgraduate programmes, joint conferences and seminars, and collaborative publications in both English and Chinese.

Dr Theo Papadopoulos, ERI Director, explained: "This is a joint effort with our Chinese colleagues that opens major academic opportunities for both ERI & CESSDU. The first joint conference: European Politics, Society and Governance will be held at Bath during 2006, and I expect to be visiting the Center in Shandong later this year".

Professor Jane Millar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Strategic Development, welcomed this exciting new development: "Creating sustainable links with leading research centres in other countries, based on genuine collaborative partnerships, is very much part of the developing international agenda of the University. We already have other links with Shandong University, so this ERI initiative builds and extends existing contacts".
