Press Release - 10 March 2006

Sign up for your local HIKE FOR HUMANITY™ & help raise funds for children worldwide.

The Bath One World Staff Society at the University of Bath is organising a ‘Hike for Humanity™’ in aid of UNICEF - on Sunday 19 March 2006 at 2pm - and is looking for other people to take part.

We are calling on local walkers of all ages to raise money for the global children’s organisation UNICEF.

In many developing countries children walk for miles each day covering huge distances to collect water, find food and to go to school. By taking part in UNICEF’s Hike for Humanity™ in your area you can help UNICEF change these children’s lives for the better.

A University spokesperson says, “By hiking for humanity right here in Bath we hope to raise as much as possible to restore lost childhoods. UNICEF works in 158 different countries including the UK helping children to reach their full potential - working to get children back into school, immunising them against killer diseases, helping children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and protecting them from exploitation.”

“A little can go along way: 45p is enough to immunise one child in Benin against a preventable, killer disease like polio or measles. In Bath we’ve set ourselves the fundraising target of £1,000, which will ensure that 1,000 mothers can deliver their babies in sanitary conditions with the provision of safe birthing kits. Please help us to beat that total by signing up now!”

If you are interested in joining the 4.5 kilometre Hike for Humanity™ in Bath please contact Marlene Bertrand by phone on 01225 383098 or by email on equalsdiv@bath.ac.uk or contact your local UNICEF Regional Fundraising Manager on 01277 314900.
