University hosts top pharmacy practice conference

The University of Bath will next week host a major pharmacy conference aiming to promote effective public involvement in medicines taking (3-4 April 2006).

The Health Services Research and Pharmacy Practice conference, brings together researchers in pharmacy practice to share ideas about their research with their peers.

The keynote address will be given by Harry Cayton, the 'patient czar', from the Department of Health. The conference chair is Dr Marjorie Weiss, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Pharmacy Practice Group in the Dept Pharmacy & Pharmacology.

“We are delighted to be hosting such an important conference in the pharmacy practice calendar,” said Dr Jenny Scott from the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology.

“It provides us with a good opportunity to disseminate new pharmacy practice research that will help patients receive better pharmaceutical care and become more involved in decisions about their care.”

The conference will include: research presentation sessions on medicines management, patient perspectives on medicines, prescribing by pharmacists, effective communication, pharmaceutical care of substance misusers and IT and the patient.
