A statement on industrial action from 7 March onwards

The University's senior management has issued a short statement about forthcoming industrial action:

Members of the academic union AUT are expected to strike on Tuesday 7 March in a dispute relating to its pay claim, and to engage in industrial action short of a strike from 8 March onwards.

The University strongly supports efforts currently being made nationally to seek an end to the dispute but is very aware of the possible effects of the present action on student examination and assessment. If there is no early resolution, guidance will continue to be issued to departments to minimise the impact on students.

The aim will be both to ensure that final year students graduate on time and the progression position of continuing students is clear at the end of the academic year, and that students are not disadvantaged because of the industrial action.

The impact of the AUT action on students will be considered on an individual or group basis in the examination and assessment process under the provisions for mitigating circumstances.
