Students' Union pass new IIP with flying colours

The Students' Union have become the first section of the University to succeed under the new Investors In People (IIP) Standard.

The new IIP Standard is much more rigorous than the previous assessment and it focuses heavily on strategic plans and targets, linking through to staff development plans and has increased emphasis on management capabilities.

The assessor's report highlighted much good practice including:

Ian Robinson, General Manager of the Students' Union, said: "We were delighted that the Assessor recognised the work we have done over the past year to make our planning process more measurable and transparent, and that our processes stood up to the demands of the new Standard."

He added: "I know that the success rate, nationally, for continued recognition has fallen significantly since the introduction of the new Standard, and I would be happy to assist other University departments in the IIP process, if requested."

Dr Catherine Hole, Head of Staff Development at the University, said: "IIP is very much a process rather than a badge and the Students' Union staff deserve many congratulations for being successful under the new, more stringent Standard."
