Oakfield hosts major new theatre project

TheatreWorks, the Oakfield-based organisation established to develop local theatre, is to launch a new county-wide project to celebrate the value of theatre in the area. The project, Connect 4, will launch with a performance of Fetch, by Big State Theatre Company, at Oakfield (Friday 19 May).

The Connect 4 project draws together 10 ‘hubs’ from across Swindon and Wiltshire, each consisting of four organisations from different sectors, to work together and celebrate the power and pleasure of theatre.

Each ‘hub’ consists of a professional theatre organisation, a community theatre group, a youth theatre and an education establishment. Swindon is at the heart of this initiative with 17 of the partner organisations based in the town.

The first phase of the project, held during May and June, will showcase the very best professional theatre in Wiltshire and Swindon, the second phase, during July and October, will celebrate performances by youth and community partners, and the final phase in the autumn will focus on professional theatre companies working in residence in schools.

The performance, Fetch, will be presented by the international Big State Theatre Company which is based in Wiltshire. Fetch is a funny and ingenious piece of theatre which combines multi-character live performances with film.

The launch of Connect 4 in Swindon takes place on Friday 19 May at the Oakfield campus. Tickets are available at £6.00 (£4.00 concessions), either call 01225 386777 or buy them on the door on the night from 7pm. The performance will start at 7.30pm and will be followed by a free post-show talk with the company.

The Swindon Evening Advertiser is the media partner for Connect 4 and will be regularly covering Connect 4 activity across Swindon in the weeks and months to come.
