University holds its first Donor Reception

The University of Bath held its first Donor Reception on Saturday 20 May to thank all the generous donors who have given to the University in the past year.

Over 100 donors (most of them alumni) and their guests attended the event which was held in the Claverton Rooms.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glynis Breakwell, gave a welcome speech, thanking donors for their kind support and updating them on how their donations are being spent.

Members of staff from many departments and students who had received scholarships or support for placements from the Alumni Fund were on hand to talk to donors about the University.

The Alumni Fund, to which most donors have contributed, has raised £160,000 since its re-launch in autumn 2005 and the University currently has over 1,000 donors.

In 2005, the Alumni Fund awarded nine new merit scholarships, ten new bursaries, fourteen grants for enterprising placements and a small number of hardship grants. It also funded projects to enhance the Library and the student Nightline service.
