Election of member of non-academic staff to serve on University Council

Nominations are requested for the vacancy for one member of non-academic staff to serve on the Council of the University from 1 August 2006 to 31 July 2009.

Council is the governing body of the University and its primary responsibilities include:

Council has a majority of lay members who are neither staff nor students of the University. It normally meets six times per year in October, December, March, May, June and July on Thursday afternoons at 4.15 pm.

The formal meeting is followed by a buffet and, occasionally, an informal evening session. Members of Council are also invited to attend key events of the University, such as the opening of new buildings.

The University has sought the approval of the Privy Council for revision of the membership of the Council with effect from 1 August 2006. One of the changes in the membership of Council will be to provide for the election of one member of non-academic staff of the University to serve on Council.

Nominations are therefore invited for the vacancy for one member of non-academic staff to serve on Council from 1st August 2006 to 31st July 2009. These must be signed by a proposer and seconder (who must also be members of non-academic staff) and submitted to Colette Milner, Office of the University Secretary, Wessex House 6.3, by 5pm on Friday 16 June 2006.

The advertisement of this vacancy is subject to approval by the Privy Council of the proposed revisions to the membership of Council. The member of non-academic staff elected will be informed when the approval of the Privy Council has been obtained.
