The funeral of Professor Emeritus Graham Henshaw

Friends and colleagues of Professor Emeritus Graham Henshaw are invited to attend his funeral at noon on Friday 16 June at Haycombe Crematorium, Southdown. His family has requested that donations be made to the RSPB instead of flowers.

Professor Henshaw joined the University in 1981 as Professor of Plant Biology, having previously been Senior Lecturer in the Department of Plant Biology at the University of Birmingham. Graham built up an important research group in the area of plant cell, tissue and organ culture that had far-reaching applications in agriculture and horticulture, especially in the third world.

He was a leading figure in the area of genetic conservation, a vital element in the development of new and improved species of crops. Graham served as Head of the Plant Biology Group from his appointment in 1981 until 1991 and also served as Head of the then School of Biological Sciences from 1986 until 1989.

In 1996 Graham took early retirement but retained a 0.5 post in the School until 2001 when he was appointed Professor Emeritus.
