Summer art exhibition at Carpenter House

The art exhibition run by the Division of Lifelong Learning opened last night and runs until the end of the week (Friday 14 July). The exhibition, held in Carpenter House, celebrates artwork completed by its students.

The exhibition includes drawings, photography, paintings, sculpture, jewellery and stained glass work.

In his opening speech Dr Philip Jones, Director of Studies, thanked everyone involved for producing a varied collection of high-quality and enjoyable work.

Photography student, Brian Goodsell, who is also an abstract painter and poet, said: "I came here to hone my photography skills, especially landscape pictures. Tutor Roger Vlitos presented an extremely interesting course in photography which I enjoyed very much." Brian plans to enrol on the portrait photography course.

Other students included Kathleen Prideaux, an art student who is retired, who said: " Art is what I live for. I attend about nine courses per year."

Jo Clarke, former student and aspiring artist, added: "Art tutor Terry Brookes has inspired us all and given me confidence to follow my creative ambitions." Jo hopes to return for more classes in the future.
