Medicinal chemists head to Bath for conference

More than 100 medicinal and pharmaceutical chemists from throughout Europe will be arriving at the University this week to take part in a major conference looking at drug design, discovery and delivery.

The conference, which takes place from Thursday 7 – Friday 8 September, is organised under the auspices of the Groupement des Pharmochimistes de l’Arc Atlantique – an organisation set up 14 years ago to promote the interests of medicinal and pharmaceutical chemists from the Atlantic coast of Europe.

The success of the conference has meant that speakers and delegates are now attracted from farther a field.

“An important aspect of this meeting is the focus on young researchers, postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers,” said Dr Mike Threadgill from the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology who has organised the conference with Dr Victoria Phillips and Dr Steve Husbands

“The conference gives these medicinal chemists of the future the opportunity to present their work through short oral presentations and posters.”
