New seminar series in coaching and mentoring

Coaches and mentors working in business, education or sport in the South West have the opportunity to explore the place of goals in their work, in the first of a new series of free seminar events at the University of Bath in Swindon (Tuesday 30 January).

The seminar, run by the University’s Business Hub, will feature Professor David Megginson from Sheffield Hallam University, founder of the University’s Mentoring and Coaching Research Unit.

Professor Megginson will explore why goals are at the heart of coaching and mentoring, then present alternative perspectives. His presentation will be made in a coaching style and members of the audience can raise issues during the seminar.

The seminar runs from 6.30-8.30pm in the main hall at the Oakfield campus. People are invited to attend from 6pm for networking opportunities.

Professor Megginson has written four books on coaching and mentoring and has chaired the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. As an executive coach he has worked with directors of companies, managers in the public sector, internationally-famous musicians, and directors in theatre and music.

He has recently worked with organisations including the Barbican Centre, Janssen Pharmaceutical, Siemens, NHS Institute and The Scottish Executive. He also supervises the practice of professional coaches and helps them to review their cases.

The seminar is part of the Business Hub’s new Coaching and Mentoring For All programme, part funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). A series of ten seminars will run between January and October.

The cost of each seminar is valued at between £10- 20 per delegate. To attend the seminars for free, delegates will need to complete an application form for ESF beneficiary or volunteer status.
