Teaching fellow recognised for “outstanding contribution to pharmacy education”

Sandy Wood, a teaching fellow in the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, has received a prestigious new award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to pharmacy education.

She picked up the ‘Pharma’ award at a ceremony last week, after being nominated by colleague Dr Jenny Scott.

Sandy has worked in the department since 1980, having joined initially on a six-month contract. Until recently, her time was divided between a community pharmacy she ran with her husband and teaching students about some of the realities of being a pharmacist.

“My role in the department is really to bring some of the practical understanding of pharmacy work into pharmacy education,” said Sandy.

“I am really pleased to have been recognised in this way, the award ceremony itself was useful for meeting new contacts and arranging additional teaching for the students.”

Professor Richard Guy, Head of the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, said: “I am delighted for Sandy. This is a fantastic achievement, and I offer the department’s congratulations to her. Well done, Sandy!”
