The 'Eye of the Wind' at sea
The 'Eye of the Wind' at sea

Press Release - 22 November 2007

Set sail at a lunchtime lecture

Local people can enjoy an ocean adventure in an illustrated lunchtime talk at the University of Bath in Swindon on Tuesday 27 November (12.15-13.30pm).

Lynda Thompson, a Swindon-based photographer, will describe her tall-ship sailing experience aboard the ‘Eye of the Wind’ in her journey halfway to the Equator from Bristol to the Canary Islands.

The 150-tonne brigantine once ploughed the oceans between South America, Cornwall and the Baltic, trading in hides, salt and china clay.

Lynda has been on numerous expeditions and travels around the globe, many of them in connection with the Earthwatch scientific research programme.

The lecture will take place at the Oakfield campus and costs £6.50, including lunch. For more information and to book a place please contact Anne Olesen at the University on 01793 328800 or email
