Professor Johnson elected as Academician

Malcolm Johnson, a visiting professor in the University’s Centre for Death & Society, has been elected to the Academy of Social Sciences.

It follows his election this summer as Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, becoming one of only a few Europeans to achieve the position.

Professor Johnson will lead a new research project at the centre into end of life care in care homes, to produce a set of national guidelines. The £96,000 project is funded by BUPA.

Earlier work into the subject earned him an Independent Healthcare Award and the collaborative project is shortlisted in The Guardian Public Service Awards for Innovations in the Care of Older People.

Professor Johnson is also Professor Emeritus at the University of Bristol.
