Warning - theft of bicycles

A message from Security Services:

Since the end of January a total of five bicycles have been stolen from the campus, some of which have been of high value.

All of the bicycles were secured with different forms of locking device which were unable to resist attack and have thus proved unfit for purpose; unfortunately using a plastic covered wire coil or a thin shackle is not going to prevent theft.

Security Services take this opportunity to remind all cyclists that they can obtain a robust, secure, British Standard Award shackle from the Security Office in Wessex House against a £10 returnable deposit; none of the bicycles stolen this year have been secured by such shackles.

The deposit of £10 will be reimbursed to the hirer upon return of the shackle in good condition.
