Professor Ronald Hutton

Press Release - 15 February 2007

Free public lecture: The successful reign of Mary Tudor

Local people have the opportunity to re-examine history in a free public lecture on the reign of Mary Tudor, one of England’s most unpopular monarchs, at the University of Bath in Swindon on Wednesday 21 February.

The lecture will be given by Professor Ronald Hutton, a leading authority on the history of the British Isles in the 16th and 17th centuries, and a popular media presenter.

Professor Hutton will examine the achievements of Mary Tudor, known to Protestant history as Bloody Mary. He will put forward the case that she was a remarkable member of a remarkable family who was quite as able as her much more famous and admired sister, Elizabeth.

Professor Hutton was elected to a fellowship at the University of Oxford before moving to the University of Bristol, where he is now Professor of History.

Admission and parking for the lecture is free and people can just turn up on the evening. The lecture runs from 5.30pm until 6.30pm in the main hall at the Oakfield campus.

The University of Bath is one of the UK's leading universities, with an international reputation for quality research and teaching. View a full list of the University's press releases:
