Retirement of Sue Oakley

Sue Oakley, PA to the Head of the Department of Education retires from the University this month.

Sue has had a long and distinguished career at the University spanning 17 years, during which time she has undertaken a number of different roles within the Department of Education.

She joined the University in 1990 as secretary to the then Director of Studies for the MA Programme, Dr Jim Harvey.

With the establishment of the Centre for the study of Education in an International Context (CEIC), Sue began working with Professor Jeff Thompson, Dr Mary Hayden and Dr Jim Harvey in organising Study Centre activities worldwide, as well as in ensuring that the Summer School ran smoothly, and her cheerful presence played a big part in making the hectic few weeks of July an enjoyable experience for all concerned.

After a few years, Sue moved from CEIC to become secretary to the Head of Department.

More recently, she undertook a secondment with Human Resources as a Role Analyst for the HERA process.

Sue has said that her time in the Department and University "has been varied and interesting and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have met and made some wonderful friends and thank everyone for their support and encouragement".

Staff are invited to a farewell gathering in the Claverton Rooms on Thursday 15 March with tea, coffee and cake from 4pm onwards. All are welcome. For catering purposes, please confirm your attendance with Kate Youngs, ext 6341.
