Salters´ Graduate Prize in chemistry awarded

The Salters’ Graduate Prize in chemistry for 2006 has been awarded to Matthew Bax who graduated from the University of Bath last summer.

Each year the Salters’ Institute, which encourages young people to pursue careers in the UK chemical industries, offers prizes to final-year undergraduates studying chemistry at UK universities.

Prizes are awarded on the basis of the potential of candidates to occupy leading positions in the chemical or related industries or in employment that supports the industrial life of the UK.

Matthew, who graduated with a first class degree in July 2006, has now started a PhD in organic chemistry at the University of Oxford.

The Department of Chemistry is involved in a number of widening participation activities with the Salters’ Institute, including two festivals of chemistry for key stage three pupils on 15 and 17 May 2007, and the Salters’ Summer Camps which take place later in the year.
