New website makes graduation planning easier

Organisers of the University’s degree ceremonies have said a new website set up last year to make liaison with students and their families easier has been very successful. Suggestions on how to improve the site further are welcome.

“Because we can see students' requests to attend ceremonies coming through in real time, this allows us to plan them earlier and more accurately,” said John Howell, Project Manager in BUCS, who helped set up the system.

“This gives students much more time to confirm their degree ceremony requirements - over eight weeks now, instead of four weeks previously.

“By improving the associated information websites for students, we have significantly reduced the number of queries and concerns from students and their families.

“Because we contact students via email, we can greatly speed up communication with overseas and distance-learning students. Furthermore, we can now target only those students who haven't responded with further emails asking for their preferences.

“Based on our experiences with the winter ceremonies, we will be extending these facilities for the summer ceremonies this year.”

BUCS would welcome any suggestions or comments for this summer - please email:
