Free public lecture: Water shortage and conflict

Local people can consider the likelihood of ‘water wars’ in the Middle East in a free public lecture at the University of Bath on Wednesday 7 February.

Professor Ewan Anderson, Emeritus Professor of Geopolitics at the University of Durham, will discuss the acute water shortage in the Middle East and the use of water as a strategic resource. He will describe a range of possible measures to alleviate water scarcity and consider the potential for conflict.

Professor Anderson worked in the University of Durham’s Geography and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Departments, and was Visiting Professor at the University of Exeter. His research, writing and teaching has focused on geopolitics.

Admission for the lecture is free and people can just turn up on the evening. Free parking is available in the West Car Park. The lecture runs later than usual, from 6pm until 7pm in the lecture hall 8 West 1.1 on the Claverton campus.
