Oakfield director invited to House of Commons

The director of Oakfield Campus, Dr Faith Butt, celebrated International Women’s Day on Thursday 8 March as a guest at a House of Commons event marking the occasion.

Women MPs invited a ‘women’s champion’ from their constituency to the event, hosted by Meg Munn, Minister for Women. Dr Butt was invited by Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove, in recognition of the University’s Women into Enterprise programme.

Flowers were laid at the statue of Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of the movement to win the right for women to vote, at Victoria Tower Gardens. It was followed by a lunch in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Guests at the event represented a broad cross-section of project work with women, including hospices, refuges, schools and projects with ethnic minorities.

The University’s Women into Enterprise scheme provides training and networking opportunities to women who are interested in starting up their own business, and offers support including ideas generation, marketing and financial planning. It is part-funded by the European Social Fund and run by the University’s Business Hub.
