Prospective students get a fresh insight into University life

More than 100 prospective students from across the UK and Europe attended the University’s first Saturday Tour earlier this month. The new style of visit gives applicants the opportunity to have an informal tour of the campus and to meet current students.

The Saturday Tours, which will be organised to fit in with open days and departmental events, are designed to give prospective students and their families the chance to talk with current students about Bath’s courses and facilities, and about life as a student at Bath.

The day, organised by Mary Mellett in Registry, included: a tour around the campus, a visit to student accommodation, a talk about student finance and a question-and-answer session with current students on the course they are interested in.

Ms Mellett said: “This was the first time we’d offered tours in this format. Because of the time of year this one was mainly attended by pupils who have received an offer and are in the process of deciding whether to accept.

“The visitors were divided into groups and shown round by a Student Ambassador on the course they had applied for, so they could get a real sense of what kind of experience they would have studying at Bath.

“The Ambassadors have maintained contact with the visitors through a follow-up email scheme which gives the pupils the chance to ask any further questions.”

Email responses have included the comments:

“Thank you for making the day fun and for all of your honest comments that made me feel that I was making an informed choice.”

“We thought it was very positive to have students who have studied sports courses and one who actually studies the course I am interested in.”

“It was really useful. I have decided to make Bath my first choice, so lots of hard work ahead of me now to get the grades!”

The next tour will be held on Saturday 21 April starting at 11.30am. If your department would like to have further involvement in the tours, please contact Mary Mellett in the Registry Enquiries Office, details above.
