School students give their own Wallace & Gromit a go

Swindon school students will get the chance to work with one of the animators from the creators of Wallace & Gromit.

Twenty-four Year 10 students will kick off four days of fun and film-making with a session on how to create a storyboard for an animation, at the University of Bath in Swindon on Monday 2 April.

Sylvia Bull, who creates storyboards for Aardman Animations, creators of Wallace & Gromit, will lead the first session at the Amazing Animation Workshop, running from 10am-4pm on 2-5 April at the Oakfield campus.

Students will learn from other animation professionals about character-making and sound effects. They will use plasticine or cut-out collage to create short animated films that will premiere to family and friends at the end of the four days.

The free workshop is part of the University’s Creative Arts Week programme aimed at raising aspirations and participation in higher education. The programme gives young people the opportunity to try new activities in a higher education setting and to learn from undergraduates from the University about life as a student.

This is the fourth year of Creative Art Weeks at the Oakfield campus.
