BUCS wins award

BUCS has won an industry award for its large scale network upgrade completed at the end of last year.

Cisco, the world’s largest networking company, awarded the University a commendation in its competition for network projects completed in 2006.

BUCS started the upgrade in April last year and completed the project at Christmas. All the work was undertaken in-house with very little disruption to user service during the transition period.

The award was presented to Kris Shah, Network Manager, earlier this month at Cisco's annual conference, held at the University of Exeter.

“As a result of the upgrade we now have a robust infrastructure delivering 10Gbps across our core network,” said Kris. “It’s now ready to take on all the other IP based services, such as telephony, CCTV, door access systems and building management systems.

“I was proud to receive Cisco's commendation award on behalf of the University.”
