Press Release - 24 April 2007

Julian Vincent elected Chairman of Trustees of Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution

Julian Vincent, Professor of Biomimetics at the University of Bath, has been elected Chairman of the Trustees of the Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution.

The Institution, based in Queen Square, was established in 1824 and hosts talks by distinguished scientists and writers.

“I hope to preserve the quirky atmosphere of the Institution but also give it a sharper edge,“ said Professor Vincent, who is part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

“The Institution has a very good programme of speakers on a variety of topics, and I’d like to focus these on certain areas.

“We also need to make sure we advertise our programme of speakers fully and use technology more, such as computerising our database of members.”

Professor Vincent, who took up his post earlier this month, said he found the challenge very interesting, and it drew upon the problem-solving skills needed in his work.

The University of Bath is one of the UK's leading universities, with an international reputation for quality research and teaching. View a full list of the University's press releases:
