Finance seminar simplifies the figures

People running small and medium-sized businesses are invited to change the way they think about finance, in an interactive workshop at the University of Bath in Swindon.

The event is organised by the University’s Business Hub and will take place on Tuesday 15 May from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Oakfield campus.

Called Funky Finance, the workshop aims to demystify the subject of finance for non finance people. It will give an insight into why finance is important and enhance commercial awareness.

The workshop will be led by Elaine Oakes from the training and consultancy company NOV8. She describes herself as a ‘reformed accountant’ and her career has included commercially-oriented finance and change management roles in companies such as B&Q and British Gas.

The Funky Finance course was first developed for non finance blue-chip managers and has since been tailored for a range of organisations including utilities, charities and small businesses.

The seminar is part of the Business Hub’s Leadership and Management programme, funded by the European Social Fund. Further seminars with leading business speakers will run each month until June.

The events are open to all local business people but priority for places will be given to people from businesses with up to ten employees. To book a free place call Carole Sheppard on 01793 328772 or email
