Mr & Mrs Webb with their homestay student last summer
Mr & Mrs Webb with their homestay student last summer

Press Release - 12 May 2007

Are you interested in hosting a visiting French student this summer?

People in the West Country willing to provide accommodation for postgraduate students from France are being sought by the University of Bath.

The students, aged 20 to 24, come from the Institut des Techniques d'Ingenieur de l'Industrie based in Nantes, and will be undertaking work experience with local employers during their stay in the UK.

Having the opportunity to live with a local family allows the students to practice their English conversation skills and to take part in British family life.

The University is interested in hearing from residents in Chippenham, Calne, Marlborough, Warminster or Yeovil and surrounding areas who can offer friendly and welcoming accommodation for six weeks from 2 June to 15 July.

The experience can be enriching and enjoyable for families, couples and individuals who are interested in meeting people from different cultures.

Mr and Mrs Webb who took part in the programme last year commented that: “We found it a most rewarding and worthwhile experience and with the help of a dictionary we were able to communicate very well and converse on a wide variety of topics.

“Our student was very keen to sample English dishes and we enjoyed introducing him to a taste of English life! In turn we learnt a lot about different aspects of French culture. All in all we found we had a lot in common!”

As well as comfortable, clean accommodation and plenty of English conversation, hosts also provide students with breakfast and an evening meal each day. Hosts are generously remunerated by the University at a rate of £115 - £125 per week.
