'Ford Fest' to mark the retirement of Peter Ford

Dr Peter Ford will soon be retiring from the University.

As well as being Chief Technician in the Department of Physics, Peter has had a very close involvement with the Institute of Physics and with the University’s “outreach” to schools. He also spent earlier parts of his career researching in superconductivity and as an academic in South Africa.

To celebrate Peter’s retirement, the Department of Physics is holding a 'Ford Fest' on the afternoon of Thursday 10 May 2007, with lectures taking place in the University Hall.

The event will be in two parts: the first (in the University Hall) will include three talks which cover various aspects of Peter’s work; the second part will be a more usual retirement party in the Claverton Rooms.

You are invited to attend both parts or either. Here is the provisional schedule:

Part 1 (Universty Hall)

2.00 – 2.30 Professor James Annett (University of Bristol) “Superconductivity: 50 years of the BCS theory”

2.30 – 3.00 Dr Martin Reed (University of Bath) covering aspects of Peter’s work in South Africa

3.00 – 3.30 Refreshments, including liquid nitrogen ice cream!

3.30 – 4.00 Dr Sally Divall (Stonar School) covering aspects of Peter’s outreach work

Part 2 (Claverton Rooms)
