Vice-Chancellor officially opens the new Imaging, Design & Print Services

This afternoon, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Glynis Breakwell, spoke at the official opening of the recently refurbished Imaging, Design & Print Services.

She congratulated the team on the successful launch of the new service and on the new open plan, professional look of the unit which brings the print, design and photography teams together under one roof.

“You have listened to your customers and can now provide quicker turnaround times, increased flexibility and a more reliable service. This professional working environment reflects what is happening across the University,” she said.

She identified some of the improvements and new services now offered by the unit, including its commitment to the environment and use of recycled paper, the new online submission system to speed up the service, and the new photographic studio.

She said: "Over the past year, you have successfully brought together three key marketing services allowing you to work more effectively as a team to provide a design-led and customer focussed service to staff and students from across the University and beyond.

"We’re not staying with the game, we’re ahead of the game."

The open day was open attended by approximately 300 staff, who were joined by external paper suppliers who ran a stand to promote the use of recycled paper across the University.

Visitors were given demonstrations of the new equipment and were able to have their photo taken and follow it through the various stages of developing and printing.

To mark the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor was presented with a framed photograph of the campus taken by Nic Delves-Broughton, University Photographer. For visitors, there was a prize draw for an iPod shuffle and discount vouchers for the new services.

Louise Paton, Head of Imaging, Design & Print Services, said: “The refurbishment enables us to provide all our customers with an accessible, efficient and competitive service.

“The advantage of being on campus means we understand and respond to the changing needs of our customers. We can deliver the best possible solutions and value for money.”

Emily Richards, Marketing Co-ordinator for the School for Health, who visited the open day said: “I didn’t realise they were able to do so many things and the quality seems fantastic. We’ve got a conference coming up and I hope to use them for everything – it’ll save us time and money – especially on couriers.

“Also, twice a year our students come to the University for a research conference – this year they’ll be able to send their posters in advance and pick them up on the day. That’s a really nice extra service we can provide for our students.”
