Women invited to experience motorsport

Local women are invited to experience a career in the motorsport industry, in free taster sessions at the Wiltshire College Motorsport Training Centre, Castle Combe race circuit.

Track races will give women the chance to get close to the action and to join competitors, officials and support teams on the circuit to experience a race from their perspective.

Industry professionals will help the women to explore the technology of the competition vehicle and identify the skills of a motorsport engineer, plus discuss the variety of career opportunities.

The taster sessions will run at the Castle Combe circuit from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 14 July, Saturday 4 August and Saturday 15 September.

The events are organised by Wiltshire College in conjunction with the University of Bath in Swindon, to support the new foundation degree in Motorsport Engineering which starts in September.

The course integrates academic and work-based learning to equip students with the engineering skills and knowledge needed by local employers. During the course they will work on a range of customer and college-based competition projects at the circuit.

“Motorsport is one of the most exciting and challenging branches of engineering and probably the least understood,” said Haydn Earl, Programme manager, at Wiltshire College. “We hope that our taster days will illustrate the diversity of engineering disciplines within the sport and encourage women to enter this ever changing and developing world.”

The event is free to women over the age of 16 who are interested in finding out more about careers within the motorsport industry. Lunch is provided.
