Shandong University renews link

The President of China’s Shandong University, Professor Zhan Tao, has visited the University of Bath to pledge continued collaboration between the two institutions.

Professor Zhan joined Vice-Chancellor Professor Glynis Breakwell to sign a renewed memorandum of understanding.

He and his colleagues, Professor Wang and Mr Li, attended a lunch hosted by Professor Jane Millar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Strategic Developments, to meet staff from the European Research Institute. They are working in collaboration with the Shandong University Centre for European Studies on a project funded by the European Union.

Professor Zhan also met with representatives from the Faculty of Engineering and Design and the Faculty of Science.

Speaking of the relationship between Bath and Shandong, Professor Millar said: "There has been a very successful start to this link, with over 20 scholars visiting Bath from Shandong University as part of the EU-funded research project, 'European Integration and the Transformation of European Political Order'.”

"We look forward to developing further partnership opportunities, including possibilities for Bath students to visit Shandong.”

In September Professor Millar and Andy Howman, Head of the International Office, will go to Shandong to take forward a number of partnership initiatives.

Any staff with an interest in possible collaboration with Shandong University are welcome to contact the International Office.
