Women invited to enterprise open day

Women who want to become their own boss can get inspiration at an open day from local women who have recently set up their own businesses.

The event on Saturday 21 July at the University of Bath in Swindon will showcase some of the success stories from the University’s Women into Enterprise training course, and give would-be and successful entrepreneurs the chance to chat over cappuccino and cakes.

The open day will run from 10am to 12.30pm, and gives guests the time to talk to course tutors, to women who have recently completed the University training course and to women who are thinking about starting their own business or joining the course.

Sue Stockdale, a course tutor and founder of motivation company Mission Possible, will talk about the opportunities for women in business and Venice Marriott, businesswoman and tutor will explain how the Business Hub can give women the confidence and know-how to start out on their own.

“Starting your own business can be a great way to do something new, fulfil a lifelong ambition or find a more flexible way of working and bringing up a family,” said Ms Marriott.

“Whether you’ve got a business idea, or just an inkling that you’d like to be your own boss, the event is open to anyone to come along and find out how the Business Hub could help.

“Sometimes people find the University setting a bit daunting but the reality of the course is very down to earth. Anybody can do it. It’s a practical, supportive course where women can learn and build confidence together.”

The Women into Enterprise course offers training, advice, guidance and support, plus crèche facilities. The next scheme starts at the Oakfield campus in September and runs through to July 2008, with weekly morning or evening sessions.

Women at the open day will have the chance to win a free place on the course worth £390.
