University "pleased" to be ranked in top dozen by The Times

The University of Bath is “pleased” to be rated 11th among UK universities in the latest Times league table.

The University was ranked in the top ten in 15 subject areas:

Biological Sciences – 7th
Business Studies – 4th
Chemistry – 7th
Civil engineering – 7th
Computer Science – 9th
Economics – 8th
French – equal 7th
German – 6th
Hospitality, Leisure and Sport – 4th
Iberian Languages – 6th
Mathematics – 4th
Mechanical Engineering – 2nd
Politics – 7th
Psychology – 5th
Sociology – 10th

Some subjects previously listed by The Times, including Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy & Pharmacology, were this year not featured as separate subject areas.

The Times' guide is widely held as authoritative within higher education. It measures eight aspects of a University’s performance: student satisfaction, research quality, entry standards, staff-student ratio, spend on facilities, performance of students, students’ careers prospects and proportion of students graduating.

A University of Bath spokesperson said: “We are pleased to be given a high ranking and we feel this is a reflection of the strength of the experience we give our students here and the way this prepares our students for success in their careers.”

The University was placed ninth by The Guardian in its league table, published in May.
