Single sign on for web applications

The Web Services Team and BUCS have launched a new ‘single sign on’ facility for the increasing number of web applications that the University uses to support its activities.

Single sign on enables anyone with a University account to enter one name and password in order to access multiple applications. When switching between web pages from different applications users won't be prompted to log in for a second time.

The software used to run this service is called CAS (Central Authentication Service).

Departments wishing to make use of this facility can easily do so using the libraries available (includes Perl, PHP and Ruby on Rails).
