Press Release - 10 October 2008

Learn to draw for free with help of local artist

The University of Bath is inviting local people to try their hand at drawing as part of the free national event The Big Draw

All ages and abilities are invited to the University’s Carpenter House, in Broad Quay, Bath, from 11am until 3pm on Saturday 18 October.

The ninth Big Draw runs from 1 to 31 October and encourages everyone to join in, using drawing to engage with the past, present and future.

Carpenter House is one of 1,000 venues nationwide taking part in the event, which include: galleries, museums, science centres, heritage and environmental sites, libraries, community and shopping centres, colleges, schools and art clubs.

Bath participants are invited to help expand the boundaries of drawing - experimenting with pencils, crayons, charcoal and string with the help of local artist Rick Sanderson.

This year the event will focus on the Olympics as its theme and participants will be encouraged to draw anything related to the sporting event.

The University’s Broadening Participation Coordinator, Rachael Selley, said: “People of all ages can come along to learn new skills, explore the world of sport through art and discover that drawing is enjoyable, liberating and at everyone's fingertips.”

Participation and materials are free. There is no need to book, simply turn up on the day – drop in for 10 minutes or stay for two hours.
