Contributor to Sport & Exercise Medicine course dies

Edward Grayson, who contributed to the development of the School for Health’s postgraduate programme in Sport & Exercise Medicine, has died.

Edward Grayson was an eminent barrister who specialised in the law in sport and wrote the definitive text on the subject Sport and the Law. In the 1990s he worked with the University developing learning materials for students on the MSc programme in Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM).

Tim Bilham, who was involved in the creation of the SEM programme, said: "At that time our policy was to invite the leading experts in the various disciplines to contribute to the distance learning texts, and in that we achieved success, but there is no doubt that involving Edward Grayson was a coup.

"However, this was not without creating some difficulties - we totally failed to persuade Edward to adapt his writing style to suit the needs of our distance learners and much sympathetic editing was necessary!

"That said, his knowledge and contribution was immense. I fondly remember his manuscripts arriving wonderfully bound with legal ribbon!"
