Bath academics visit Iceland to advise on health and welfare issues

Three members of the Department of Social & Policy Sciences visited Iceland last week to discuss and advise on various policy issues.

Tess Ridge and Jane Millar spent a day with the welfare department of Reykjavik, leading a seminar on child-centred research methods, which was attended by social workers and other professional staff.

They also gave a public lecture at the University of Reykjavik, entitled Work & care in lone-mother families: a family-work project, and were interviewed by the local radio station.

Linda Bauld gave two plenary talks at the Icelandic Medical Association's annual conference - one on NHS stop smoking services in the UK and the other on smoke-free legislation. She also contributed to discussions to inform the development of a national treatment service for smokers in Iceland.
