Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment Student Essay Awards

Following the success of last year’s winning essay, “Our Obsession with Possession” by Penelope Court, a psychology student from the University of Bath, the judging panel is this year looking for both undergraduate and postgraduate entrants.

The winner of the postgraduate category will receive an £800 cash prize, free attendance to the IEMA Conference & Annual Dinner in June and one year’s free IEMA Student membership.

The winner of the undergraduate category will receive a £600 cash prize, a free place at the IEMA Conference & Annual Dinner and one year’s free IEMA Student membership.

The winning essays will also appear in the June issue of the IEMA’s magazine the environmentalist.

Last year's winner, Penelope Court, said on receiving her award:

“Winning the award was the most exciting and proudest moment of my life. What really moved me was the responses people sent to me, congratulating me, asking for a copy of my essay and saying how it had really made them think about things.

"To know that my ideas had a chance to reach further than the page in front of myself or perhaps the odd lecturer was a real honour.”

All entries must be received by 5pm on Friday 4 April 2008.
