Reception desk
The new University Reception will be located in the Library
The Library is in a central position on the campus and is easily recognised

University Reception desk to open in Library

Commencing on Monday 31 March 2008, initially for a trial period, a University Reception will be opened alongside the security desk in the Library.

Since the inception of the University there has never been a centralised University Reception area for new staff, students and visitors to use as a point of reference and direction.

As a prestigious centre of learning with some 12,500 students and 2,500 staff, the campus receives many thousands of visitors each year; the lack of a centralised information and contact point can lead to confusion, because of the magnitude and complexity of the campus, visitors are often at a loss as to where to go or who to contact.

The Library was chosen as the location of the University Reception because it is known as the centre of the campus, it is an impressive building and one which visitors should be able to locate easily.

Initially the opening hours will be 8am-6pm Monday to Friday; outside these times security staff will monitor the need for staffing beyond that time.

The Wessex House Security Office will close to all but car park and electronic access control enquiries; all other general or security enquiries including key and cash collection will be dealt with at the library desk by either the Security Officer or University Receptionist.

This will enable us to evaluate the worth of the facility in preparation of proposed future moves within the University,

The University Reception will be signposted from East and West car parks, the Wessex House steps, from the south of the campus and also from the Parade.
