Young people to get creative at University this Easter

Young people will be encouraged to let loose their imagination during a free Creative Arts Week running from 7-11 April 2008 at the University of Bath's Oakfield Campus in Swindon.

During a five day ‘Crazy Cartoon Animation Workshop’ the participants will be working with experienced animators and other professionals from the animation industry to create their own animated short film using traditional cel animation, drawing each frame by hand and colouring them in as well as adding their own sound track. After post-production of the finished animated film, all participants will get a copy on DVD to keep.

The participants will also get to meet and work alongside undergraduates from the University of Bath who will tell them about the possibilities available to them in Higher Education and what life as an undergraduate student is like.

Participation is free. All art materials are also provided free of charge. Free lunch and break snacks are provided every day.

This workshop is open to year 10 pupils in Wiltshire and Swindon who comply with ESF eligibility criteria and priority for places is given to young people from families with little or no experience of university life.

"The Creative Arts Week provides young people with a unique opportunity to explore and develop their creativity and artistic talents in a university setting” said Clinton Osborne, Creative Director for the Easter Creative Arts Week.

"The tutoring they will receive from the professional animators is invaluable and will nurture their artistic aspirations and allow them to develop and grow as potential artists."

This workshop is part of the successful Creative Arts Weeks program at the University of Bath in Swindon which is now in its fifth year. This program is organised by the Broadening and Developing Participation Team.

The Creative Arts Weeks are free of charge and take place at the Oakfield Campus, Marlowe Avenue. Activities run from 10am to 4pm.

There are a small number of places still available. For more information and to download an application form, please see the link or contact Anne Olesen, details above.
