Students win ‘Dragon’s Den’ style national enterprise campaign

Two students from the University of Bath have won £5,000 and business backing in a national enterprise competition to develop their idea for producing healthy frozen yoghurt.

Chris Hannaway and Will Hammersley, both members of the University’s enterprise club, BANTER, created a video clip to enter their idea online which won a public vote.

Their entry, FroYo, is an idea for ethically, organically and locally produced frozen yoghurt which promotes healthy eating and lifestyle.

The competition, ‘Make Your Mark’ is a business-led and government-backed national campaign to create an enterprise culture among young people in the UK.

“We wanted to source locally to support agriculture in the South West. Where that is not possible, we will be using Fairtrade channels,” said first year physics student Will.

“We also want to make FroYo as healthy as possible and use fewer additives.”

The duo are to receive £5,000 plus support from UnLtd, a charitable organisation that promotes social entrepreneurship, to transform their idea into a product on supermarket shelves.

“It’s really exciting that our idea is going to become a commercial reality,” said Chris, a first year business administration student.

“We’ve been given a fantastic opportunity to start the business.”

The winner was announced at the Young Voice 2008 conference by Tim Campbell, winner of ‘The Apprentice’ and now of the Bright Ideas Trust, and Cliff Prior, Chief Executive of UnLtd (pictured above).
